Free Classes at the ALFI Fruit Tree Sale

During the ALFI Fruit Tree Sale (February 16th, 2019, 10am—1pm at The Atlanta Community Food Bank), we will be hosting three free classes on fruit trees available to all. No registration necessary—we'll meet at a designated spot at the Food Bank and go to the classroom in the conference room upstairs together.

Classes are free to attend and times will be announced later. Our fruit tree experts will lead the classes, so come prepared to learn a lot!

Intro to Tree Care

From picking your planting location to fertilizing to overwintering, this class will cover all the basics you need to shepherd your baby fruit tree into a beautiful, abundant addition to your yard.

Attendees should bring multiple photos of their yard for a consultation with our instructor about fruit tree selection and placement in your yard.

This class will be taught by Mike McCord—he can make a tree grow in the most unlikely of places!  A certified arborist, permaculture and landscape designer and an employee of Trees Atlanta, he’s planted trees all over the city.

This class will address choosing the right tree for you, site location, tree planting demo, watering schedule, fertilizing and beyond!

Advanced Tree Care

Do you have older fruit trees? Is it time for them to be pruned or thinned? Curious about funky bugs or spotting you may be finding on the tree? Join Concrete Jungle for a more in-depth class on managing fruit trees as they grow to maturity.

Feel free to bring photos of any specific questions you may have (photos of spotting on trees, photos of trees to be pruned, etc.).

This class will be taught by Mike Fillon of the Tucker Orchard Guild, a master seed saver and who has planted and cultivated many unique varieties of fruit trees across the city!  And don’t even get him started on Pawpaws! Mike is a strong advocate of permaculture practices and is excited to share his green wisdom with you.

Learn how to cultivate your fruit tree to maturity!  Learn appropriate water, fertilizing and pruning practices.  Safegaurd your tree against potential pests, disease and problems through permaculture practices.
